The day our fence got painted!
On Wednesday, 11 October, the heavens opened and we had constant heavy rain and wind in the Halifax area. This is really just as we expected, because a party of gallant volunteers from HBOS (the Halifax Bank of Scotland) had arranged to come to Mount Pellon and paint our long-neglected boundary fence.
We have to pay tribute and our lasting gratitude to the HBOS troops, who stayed out and painted despite the weather, just so long as they could keep the paint on the soaking wet railings. And they did this without a word of complaint, and with smiles on their faces!
They are going to try to arrange another volunteer day during the Spring when, surely, the weather will be better, to finish off the huge task we set them. For the record, our fence is 240 metres long, and consists of approximately 2720 uprights, each 120 cm high. Quite a big paint job, in fact!
Our thanks go to the volunteers and to HBOS, who are very kindly covering part of the cost of our paint and materials. And to the Dulux Decorator Centre on Pellon Lane, who let us have the paint at a very special price for our very good cause.
To see what a difference a day makes, take a look at our fence - you can quite clearly see the difference between the front of school, where the volunteers were working, and the rest of the fence.
