1 Sep 2007 - Recycling Rewards - how well we did!

The exciting recycling scheme promoted by Calderdale MBC really captured our children's imagination. We were involved with this scheme for eighteen months.

The basic idea was that families sign a pledge that they would recycle wherever possible. Children learned about recycling in special assemblies, and were able to tell their parents how important it is that we all do our bit to reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.

In return for pledges received, children had the chance to earn exciting rewards and prizes. Kiran Hussain at our school won an MP3 player AND an underwater camera for her sterling efforts.

Mount Pellon earned by far the most points of any school in Calderdale, even though the scheme was weighted so that large schools did not do better than small ones.

From the points we earned, we received - wait for it! - a PA system for our school hall, complete with microphones, 3 video cameras, 3 digital cameras, 3 Beebot robot systems for our Reception classes, 3 tracks for the above, and lots of PE equipment!

Well done to everyone, and keep up with the recycling!
